7 Ups & 2 Downs From Star Trek: Discovery 5.9 — Lagrange Point

2. DOWN — Chair-Hanger

Not to end on a negative, but at least Rayner is (finally!) sitting down for it! It's not the chair slap that gets the DOWN either. Like Rayner, by Lagrange Point's end, we were creeping towards the edge of our seats, but we needed to be hanging over a cliff!

The ending to Lagrange Point was as heart-pumpingly exciting as it gets, don't get us wrong, with its duranium barrel rolls and portal piercing explosions right back at the black holes. Burnham had gone inside the portal after Moll, scans couldn't detect her, but Book knew she was still alive. Then came Rayner's emboldening speech as he sat in the chair. "Failure is not an option […] Let's do this!"

That should have been epic enough, but, as you know by now, we are picky for the finer points at TrekCulture. We simply felt the ending needed something just a little extra, one last hook to push it over from chair- to cliff-hanger. Unlike that duranium shell, a shot of Burnham, perhaps, inside the Progenitors' portal, might just have sealed the deal.
