9 Ups & 2 Downs From Star Trek: Resurgence
1. Up: Alien Additions
Resurgence also brings in two new races to the franchise in the form of the disagreeing Hotari and Alydians.
Conflicting over their ownership of mining rights on the Tau moon, players are placed into a position where they will be forced to align with one of the two viewpoints. As you play through however this decision isn't quite as clean cut a might have been first realised and that's one of Resurgence's top points.
You can only make decisions based on what you know of the situation as the story evolves. You might have more of a leaning towards the Alydians who claim to be the original rights owners to the mines or perhaps the Hotari who see it as their moon.
But as events progress there are more layers to each of the races and thus the black and white choices become a much more cloudier shade of grey. Indeed this is absolutely true of a Star Trek story where one viewpoint is no less valid than another. The reintroduction of the Tkon Empire only adds to the murkiness of the waters around the two new races due to its integral nature to the game.
But, what Resurgence does succeed at is building the relationships between the lead characters and both Hotari and Alydians to make them just as multifaceted as any creation for the TV or movies.
