9 Ups & 2 Downs From Star Trek: Resurgence

3. Up: Episodic Nature

This one is perhaps an Up and a Down!

In keeping with the Star Trek format, Resurgence is split into a series of mini-sodes which reflects the televisual nature of the beast. Broken into 40 of these sections, each alternates between the two playable characters as they tackle different challenges as part of the main overall story arc. Each is in turn given its own very fitting and typically TNG era title giving only the faintest of hints as to what might be coming up.

Certainly in terms of the storytelling this is an excellent feature with each of the mission elements taking around 10 to 20 minutes to complete and involving various tasks and challenges to undertake.

The big downside is that there is no automatic save feature which leaves players either having to ensure they complete each of the mini-sodes to allow the data to be uploaded or put their chosen platform into rest mode. Be warned though that dropping into the Relationships menu and accidentally flipping back to the main menu will mean that players need to start that segment again. This can be more than frustrating if you're one step away from completing a 20 minute piece and need to do the whole thing over.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
