Star Trek: 10 Biggest Takeaways From Patrick Stewart's Memoir (and One That Wasn't)
2. More Than A Captain's Holiday
The third season of TNG is perhaps best remembered for episodes such as Yesterday's Enterprise and The Best of Both Worlds, however, for Stewart there was a little more added spice to proceedings.
Captain's Holiday was a story that gave Picard something more to do than command from the bridge. It also differed from previous romantic episodes like We'll Always Have Paris and The Measure of a Man.
The episode, which was filmed while Stewart's marriage to first wife Sheila was under considerable strain, would introduce the captain to archaeologist Vash played by Jennifer Hetrick.
The onscreen chemistry isn't that much of an act because when the episode wrapped the two became a couple for a short period of time. Stewart's wife worked out that there was a third person in their marriage and this led to divorce proceedings.
The pressure of the intense media interest around his relationship with Hetrick would play a huge part in that pairing ultimately ending, leaving Stewart alone for the first time in two decades. By the time Vash appeared for a second time in TNG for QPid, their relationship was firmly over.
