While the Enterprise Captain is familiar with the works of Lonnie Donnegan and a few classical artists, his knowledge of more modern music leaves something to be desired. Or at least it did.

While working on the David Lynch Dune adaptation, Partick Stewart would be introduced to a young actor going by the name of Sting. This new arrival to the set got into a conversation with Stewart, revealing that he played bass in a band. Stewart was amazed that he would be playing double bass (which, oddly Sting does in the video for Every Breath You Take) before being corrected that he actually meant bass guitar.

"Do you...play in a group?" asked Stewart. "Yes, with the Police." replied Sting.

"You play in a Police band. Wow! How marvellous"!"

While Sting may have forgiven the actor for his impressive lack of popular music knowledge in later years, it's still an incident that resulted in much ribbing and spread around the set like wildfire.

Skip forward a few years and social media sensation Patrick Stewart would be parodying his own musical album of country and western tracks. These were actually songs that he recalled from listening to Children's Hour on the radio back in his bedroom alongside his brother at 17 Camm Lane.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
