Star Trek: 10 Biggest Takeaways From Patrick Stewart's Memoir (and One That Wasn't)

7. Cue Diana...and David

The revelation that Patrick Stewart taped Diana Muldaur's lines to his head for a scene during the second season of TNG has become one of the biggest takeaways from the book for Trekkies, as has the troubled time that the Pulaski actress had during her year on the show.

But one that seems to get missed out is the part around David Warner.

Stewart had previously worked with Warner on stage and had come to admire his work. Warner's career had been in ascendancy while Stewart was working his way up more slowly, finding crowds at stage doors were waiting for the future Tron and The Undiscovered Country actor with Patrick only getting an "Are you somebody?" question as he left the theatre.

Warner, it seems, was cast quite late in the process for Chain of Command and as such didn't have much time to learn the lines for his episode. As fans will recall it's a very one-on-one heavy story between Gul Madred (pronounced as May-drid in the audio version!) and Picard, with the short turnaround time leading to Warner requiring many of his lines presented, off-camera, on cue cards.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
