Star Trek: 10 Characters Who Must Return (2023)

1. Harry Kim

Poor Harry, you've already been the butt of so many jokes! When you arrived for duty on Voyager, you were greener than an Orion wedding, got tongue-tied in front of the captain… sir… ma'am… captain…, and you would have been swindled by Quark had it not been for Tom Paris. Of all the crew, you were no doubt the most eager to get home, for Libby and your folks, and even your friends played on your credulity in the matter.

You grew in confidence and experience over the years — no one dies that many times for nothing — and got to command the night shift (although please don't bring a talking bomb on board again), but you were still left lingering at ensign. Perhaps out of all the characters on this list, you most deserve a 'promotion' to contemporary Trek, so we'll keep a subspace channel open until you do.

As the Borg Queen once said, "We'll see you soon, Harry!" This ominous afterthought has yet to be realised in the literal sense of the sentence — were the Borg after Harry in particular? There's only one way to find out!

In the general sense, without the Borg, the 'we'll see you soon' for Kim could come in many forms: he had reached four pips in the alternate Endgame future timeline, so why not make that fact prime canon in Star Trek: Legacy or a Voyager 'Long Trek'? In the least, Harry should light up the Lower Decks — we'd all like to see how he gets on with Boimler and vice-versa — and pop up in Prodigy to help out his former captain and that fresh batch of green warrant officers-in-training.
