Star Trek: 10 Disastrous USS Voyager First Contacts
1. No More Scarves On Sikaris?
Things started off well, if a little bizarrely, between Voyager and this species: the Sikarians sent out distress calls to invite strangers 'in need' to their touchy-feely hospitality planet. They were friendly, so long as you spoilt them with pleasurable new stories, or they'd order you to leave.
The Sikarians weren't just egocentric party animals and crafty with a sewing kit, they were accomplished scientists, possessing one particular piece of technology — the spatial trajector, capable of transporting people and possibly starships up to about 40,000 light years. They also had a 'Canon of Laws' that meant they didn't like to share. Half of Voyager wanted to grab the trajector and run, the other half (notably Captain Janeway) had their own laws to abide by. Wait, what, Tuvok went (unauthorised) to get it?! Original gangster Vulcan!
Years later, in Star Trek: Picard, we learnt that the trajector technology was now part of the Borg Queen's emergency escape plan, meaning some, if not all, of the Sikarians had been assimilated. Did the Borg find out about the species from Voyager's database in Scorpion or from Tuvok's mind in Unimatrix Zero? After first contact with Voyager, it’s doubtful the Sikarians are still making scarves for passing captains.
