One of the best resources for information about Hope and Fear is the 1998 Terry J Erdmann book Star Trek Action!

Covering the making of the season four finale, the Dauntless was originally just known as the Silver Bullet. The set for the bridge was constructed on Stage 16 at Paramount Studios "sandwiched between" the permanent cave set, the museum set for Living Witness/Insurrection and another which was being built for One, the penultimate episode of the season.

The Dauntless corridors were a straight redress from Voyager just as was done with the Protostar for Dauntless in Prodigy. The bridge and engine room were two new sets created for the episode and were modelled by Construction Designer Richard James. He imagined the sets with curved sides because of the note that the ship itself was bullet-shaped and would therefore reflect the exterior that had yet to be created.

The bridge set for Prodigy's iteration of the Dauntless would be a direct homage to the Voyager set including the concave walls and patterning. Where it would differ was that the Starfleet sections of the original were all additional pieces that were able to be removed once Arturis' rouse was uncovered. That would then reveal the more alien nature of the Dauntless in a darker, more ominous orange tone than the light colours of its Starfleet disguise.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
