Considering that there was a limit on how much the show could spend on creating new sets (as detailed in the extras on the season one Prodigy special features), there was very little reuse when it came to the Dauntless. "Some of the sickbay designs such as the biobeds were based on Protostar designs," said Aaron Waltke, "but much of the ship had to be created from scratch to match the interiors of the Dauntless from Hope and Fear.

One notable absence from the bridge set on the Prodigy Dauntless is the dedication plaque. On Arturis' version it is present and bears the inscription "Hope is a waking dream.” Aaron believes that if one had been created for Janeway's version of the ship it would be something very different. Of course, the motto for Arturis' ship is a huge nod to the episode's later revelation that the starship is part of his elaborate plot to maroon the Voyager crew with the Borg.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
