Star Trek: 10 Secrets About The USS Discovery-A You Need To Know
2. Zora the Explorer
Introduced in the Short Trek Calypso, Zora is the artificial intelligence operating within Discovery's computer systems. The distinction is that Zora isn't the computer itself but inhabits its network. As Zora terms herself, she is the a combination of both the Sphere data carried on the ship in season two as well as the systems, logs and history of Discovery itself.
The voice of Zora is performed by Annabelle Wallis who has further acting heritage in the family. Her great uncle was the acclaimed Richard Harris whom audiences will know as the first to play Professor Dumbledore in Harry Potter as well as a host of other iconic film roles.
Zora's first appearance was technically her last since it would be in the even further flung future as the lone occupant of the abandoned Discovery. The producers of the show have said that season five will explain how the ship ends up empty and seemingly lost. The avatar of Zora seen in Calypso is played by actress, singer and dancer Sash Striga. Additional to this was that in Face the Strange there was even the notion that Discovery would be abandoned within 30 years albeit in a possible future.
A deleted line from Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 would have mentioned that the Zora program was being developed by the Daystrom Institute in 2258 as a replacement for Control. That entity would be driven to try and acquire the Sphere data that would ultimately become part of Zora.
