Star Trek: 10 Secrets About The USS Enterprise-F You Need To Know

9. Thanks For The Support

Taking inspiration from Enterprise-F's online heritage, the Federation's outgoing flagship marked a new take on design with the inclusion of a docked support craft.

Nestled into the rear of the Odyssey Class is the Aquarius support craft. In a similar vein to the Aeroshuttle on Voyager and the Calypso yacht from Enterprise-D, it wasn't used onscreen, though it has been featured in Online. The craft would be destroyed by Captain Shon in the year 2410 when it was rammed into an Undine (Species 8472) craft. As one would expect, the craft was rebuilt and re-docked for the refit (that's a lot of re's).

The purpose of the support craft wasn't that it simply be a big shuttle in terms of the Delta Flyer or a Runabout but would provide additional assistance in battle and provide extra attack vectors.

In another nod, both the Aquarius and the starship class itself, Odyssey would be references to the Apollo 13 mission where the lander and the command module bore the same names respectively. That mission was notable for the fact that it never reached the Moon and dropped the phrase "Houston, we've had a problem" into near legend.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
