Star Trek: 10 Things That Made You Cringe
7. Tucker's Predicament
You know we had to talk about the sexually-transmitted hand nipples…
The Enterprise episode Unexpected (one of the first episodes of the show) was extremely cringey for obvious reasons: the randomness was off the charts and the humour was cheap and slightly bigoted.
After a strange encounter with an alien, Tucker returned to the Enterprise and noticed a strange growth on his arm. Doctor Phlox examined it and revealed that it was a nipple growing on his arm and Tucker had somehow become pregnant. In fact, this was the first recorded pregnancy between an alien and a Human.
What came next was a series of stereotypes about pregnancy and women, played off as lame jokes. Tucker became overwhelmed with a motherly instinct and started getting odd cravings, and mood swings. Throughout the whole episode, the joke was 'ha ha, pregnant man', which is also pretty offensive to trans men with uteruses. The worst part of the episode was when the Klingons they encountered laughed hysterically upon seeing a pregnant man, as if that's the most shocking thing in a universe filled with all forms of life.
