5. His Problem With Art

As we mentioned earlier, Data's mother, Juliana, felt that Data should have an outlet to express himself, so she programmed him to enjoy art. He experimented with music, painting, poetry, and more, but he ran into a strange issue with all of his artistic endeavours.

All of his art was highly skilled and technically perfect in every way, but his lack of emotions made his early work seem kind of passionless at times. This issue was most noticeable in the poem he wrote for his cat, titled Ode To Spot:

Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,

An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;

Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses

Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defences.

By coming from a less emotional perspective, Data was actually able to create a very unique style of poetry. While it may lack the passion of Human poetry, the technobabble and the strict adherence to rhyme structure showcase Data's personality, much like his other works of art.
