Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Duras Sisters
2. Sisters on the Station
In the lore of Star Trek, the Sisters of Duras would arrive on DS9 during their "renegade years". At this time they were looking for support to start a second attempt to retake the Klingon Empire. In fact, most of their time on screen is spent in this futile effort following the events of Redemption.
The real-world reason for their turn in Past Prologue was much simpler, mirroring that of Q a few episodes later; it tied the series into Star Trek's galactic continuity. In universe, they planned to sell bilitrium to the Kohn-Ma.
DS9 would also be the location for the sisters' only literary appearance to date in the fourth novel produced for the space station spin-off, The Big Game, written by Sandy Schofield - a pseudonym for Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch.
Lursa and B'Etor would be among the players at the eponymous poker tournament looking to gain funds for another attempt at taking the Klingon Empire. Also at the table would be equally reputable names such as Berlinghoff Rasmussen (A Matter of Time) and Ktaran Etana Jol (The Game). The sisters would ultimately be uncovered as cheats using a special deck of cards. Thwarted by Quark they would escape to fight another day.
