It was fun... wasn't it?

Generations certainly drives a good Star Trek conversation and not just because of its introduction of the TNG crew to the big screen.

The long-awaited team-up between Captains Kirk and Picard saved the lives of the pre-warp civilization on Veridian III but with a high price. Kirk's life was the ultimate sacrifice at the climax of the movie with the former Enterprise captain buried on the hilltop next to one of Soran's platforms. The original cut had him infamously shot in the back and the subsequent reshoots following test screenings saw a more heroic demise. Kirk decloaked Soran's launcher before the fragile remains on the bridge he was clinging to plummeted to the canyon floor below.

Roddenberry Archive OTOY 765874 recently had Spock visit the site to pay his respects, although it seems that there were others who made the trip too - fans will have been wondering who might have dropped by the planet to visit the site.

Daystrom Station in 2401 now houses the body of James T. Kirk in a conscious nod to the William Shatner novel, The Return, that shows the Enterprise captain returning from the dead. Added at Terry Matalas' suggestion, provides that glimmer of hope that one day he may just return to the franchise.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
