As the leading women of Game of Thrones begin to rise in power, their costumes have become increasingly modest. Intentionally cut to form a striking and dark silhouette, the ensembles reflect the power each has achieved from hard-fought battles and heartbreaking losses. As they each brace for battle, their costumes become increasingly militaristic, featuring dramatic shoulder structures, chainmail accents, and rich, dark fabrics.
Take Cersei for example. In earlier seasons, she relied on her looks and sexuality to gain power. What was once filled with delicate and bright silks, Cersei's wardrobe has taken on a much more somber tone. Now, the current Queen of the Seven Kingdoms wears full sleeves and literal armor to protect her from the pain of losing her father, children, and just about everyone else.
