So much of Sansa's life was hell and her hardened heart is reflected in her character and in her costume. After her torturous marriage to Ramsay Bolton, Clapton designed pieces that encapsulated “an idea of being wrapped, a sense of security, laced in, protected," for Sansa.
When governing in Jon's stead, her ensembles were dark, moody, and substantially more mature. Gone was the silly girl from King's Landing, here stands Lady Sansa of Winterfell.
The creative costumer shared, "There's an armor to her. There’s feathers again from her time in the Eyrie. There’s a circular necklace, which I think is really important with a needlepoint. And there’s an element in the dress of her mother, the pattern is almost like fishes swimming. It’s this binding against her vulnerability. It’s full of symbolism."
