5. A Bizarre Love Triangle Between Jon Snow, Arya Stark & Tyrion Lannister
As the original plot contained no Cersei character, there was no incestuous love interest for the murderous Jaime. However, the theme of inter-familial love still loomed large, though it centred on the Starks rather than the Lannisters: between Arya Stark, and the person were led to believe is her half-brother, Jon Snow. You read rightly: Jon (also revealed to be a member of the Nights Watch in this draft, and therefore similarly sworn to celibacy) and Arya were hopelessly in love. This love was never consummated though, with the half-siblings placing continents between them to ensure they did not yield to temptation. GRRM noted in the initial plot outline that this mutual love and passion would plague them, something further confounded by the fact that Tyrion Lannister would also be hopelessly smitten with Arya, providing ample fuel for what was (at least ostensibly) a bizarre, incestuous love triangle.
