MTV cast THE (American) INBETWEENERS

MTV are moving ahead with their remake of The Inbetweeners, the UK sitcom about four hormonal teenage boys. The show has now been cast, according to Deadline, with the American characters played by relative unknowns: Joel Pollari, Bubba Lewis, Zack Pearlman and Mark L. Young. Taika Waititi (Flight Of The Conchords) is directing the pilot, with filming starting on 10 January in Orlando, Florida. The series is being written by Brad Copeland, with original creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley serving as executive-producers, alongside Aaron Kaplan. Interestingly, Morris and Beesley have a connection to Waititi, having written a few episodes of Flight Of The Conchords. The UK version is a BAFTA-winning hit and recently completed its third and final series, although a feature-length movie and TV special is in the pipeline. The Inbetweeners is admired for its embellished but curiously familiar and relatable perspective on British teenage life, so it'll be interesting to see if the US version achieves the same tone. Or will it just be Superbad: The TV Series?
