Despite being a loyal lead salesman, Dwight attempts to oust Michael from his job, only for it to fail. Later when Michael leaves Dunder Mifflin, he becomes upset that Michael doesn't recommend him for the position.

It finally takes Deangelo becoming injured for Dwight to take the helm, only for him to blow his opportunity soon after when he accidentally fires a gun in the office.

It takes a while but eventually Dwight does become the permanent manager. Luckily this time he's learnt that if he treats his colleagues with respect, he'll become the manager he's always dreamt of being.
