The Walking Dead: 10 Most Underused Characters

9. Sophia Peletier

The Walking Dead
AMC

Although Sophia Peletier's death remains one of the show's most pivotal moments, showing fans how different to the comics the series would be and how no one - not even innocent kids - were safe in the new world, Sophia herself is undoubtedly an unfairly shortchanged character.

In the comics, Sophia survives right through to the end of the series, and holds one of its best arcs. She's tough, loyal, a strong leader and forms a relationship with Carl Grimes.

On the show, though, she was nothing more a silent background character, easily scared, joined at the hip to her mother Carol and unable to handle the world around her.

When she disappeared in season two's opener, it was clear her fate was sealed, and when she came out of the Greene family barn as a walker and Rick shot her down, it was both shocking and wasteful.

The writers deserve major credit for switching up the format of the source material, but given how important Sophia was in the comics, it's a shame we had to say goodbye to her so soon.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Be excellent to each other.
