10 AEW Originals Who Are Struggling In 2022
9. Sonny Kiss
On the “Buy In” pre show ahead of the original Double Or Nothing, AEW presented a Casino Battle Royale to determine a title contender to go up against the winner of that night’s main event. It was a comedy fuelled match which, whilst entertaining, betrayed AEW’s much touted “sports-based presentation.” Nonetheless, stars like MJF and Luchasaurus managed to use it as a platform to get themselves over.
Another Battle Royale stand-out, Sonny Kiss, looked set to be one of the more distinctive stars in AEW’s constellation. Sadly, Kiss has failed to really establish herself in the promotion. Her tag run with Joey Janela had its fans but failed to break out of AEW’s YouTube shows and onto TV. Her most memorable television moment remains an unceremonious squash at the hands of Kenny Omega - and that was back in 2020.
July saw Kiss take to Twitter, hinting her dissatisfaction in response to fellow under-utilised talent Brian Cage. Cage has since re-emerged, with enjoyable bouts against Wardlow and Samoa Joe to his name. He’s gone from seeming oblivion to Dynamite’s main event.
Kiss has also found her way back to television but when recruitment by the underwhelming Trustbusters stable represents a step in the right direction, it’s hard to argue things are going well.
