10 Awesome WWE Returns RUINED By Awful Reactions
1. Christian (ECW - 2009)
Poor Christian. It was bad enough that he has always kinda been looked at like Edge's sidekick, or a lesser version of Edge, but then this happened.
After four years away from the company, which included a fairly successful run in TNA, Christian made his WWE return on the ECW brand in a program against Jack Swagger. His 'coming home' should have been a huge deal. Christian had been one of the cornerstones of some epic tag matches in the prime of the Attitude era, including the very first Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match against the Hardy Boyz (which resulted in a standing ovation at the end of it.)
Instead, when his music hit, and his name appeared on the Titantron, there was a notably muted reaction. Matt Striker would later say that Christian was given a huge ovation, but people lining the walkway to the ring barely reacted.
Todd Grisham, on play by play, didn't help with his quiet, almost deadpan announcement of 'It's...it's Christian." He sounded more like someone who had just seen something unpleasant on the catering table and was pointing it out to the staff.
Matt Striker did his best to hype up the moment, saying that the moment had just become 'instantly classic,' but the damage was done, and Christian's solo return was dead in the water.
