10 Best Big Men In Wrestling Today

That's a lot of beef...

Lance Archer
AEW

In an era of wrestling that favours workrate, the larger than life athletes can often get pushed to the side. The flips and spectacle of cruiserweight matches sometimes outshines the great work that some of these big men do in the ring.

That's often because a lot of the big men today can do their own flips! It's not uncommon to see a near-7ft giant do a rolling plancha onto a group of bodies out side the ring. This is simply the way wrestling has evolved. Gone are the days of Lex Luger Vs. Meng in WCW. Chinlocks, shoulder tackles... instead, we are in the era of hyper-athletic big men.

There are still big men who embody the ideals of Vince McMahon in the late 80s. Lars Sullivan being a primary example of that. He is a throwback to the old days of wrestling, where he is a carnival attraction. He slams people and that is it.

There is so much more to do with athletes of this stature, and the men on this list prove that. They have organically gotten themselves over by their in-ring work and promos, transcending restrictive labels to become incredible pro-wrestlers...

10. Lance Archer

Lance Archer
AEW

One of the scariest big men in wrestling today, Lance Archer made a big impact when he debuted in AEW. His previous work in New Japan Pro Wrestling speaks for itself, specifically his Texas Death Match against Jon Moxley. In AEW, Archer was introduced to wider audiences when he entered into a feud with Cody.

The Murderhawk Monster has a terrific look. He towers above his opponents and manages to toss almost all of them around like a rag doll. This was highlighted brilliantly in his match against Marko Stunt. Marko was the perfect opponent to showcase Archer's skills because he is just so small. His stature works so well at putting over big men and Archer capitalised on this.

The addition of Jake Roberts to the Lance Archer package just makes him all the more compelling. The duo has great video packages together, and we can see the layers unravel as Jake loses control of the monster. Archer is so good that even though he has lost quite a lot, he still manages to come out strong and is taken seriously as a credible threat.

In a company that is stacked with big men, Archer is a great throwback to old school wrestling and is packaged as the perfect monster heel.
