Whether you are a cartoon character, an advertisement mascot, a drag queen entering Rupaul's Werkroom, or any other over-the-top persona who finds themselves on the world stage, everybody needs a catchphrase to hook audiences in.

In professional wrestling, it is no different. Once you reach the big leagues you need a few lines that your employer can slap onto merch and that arenas heaving with fans can chant back to you.

At any wrestling show, you only need to look around a few torsos to realise that catchphrases are big business, giving pro-wrestling plenty of motivation to generate pithy lines from the mouths of their combatants. While the scripted element of sports entertainment is often one of the most heavily criticised, there is no denying that catchphrases hit more than they miss; even if some are embraced by the fandom with a hefty dose of irony.

Catchphrases have as much chance as dying out in wrestling as they do in prime time sitcoms. And the folk we cheer and jeer each week have embraced them as a building block to create compelling characters...

10. "Fickle"

This one finishes low on the list due to the current uncertainty of whether "fickle" is making a comeback or a cameo. Bryan Danielson drew upon his time as a WWE top-tier heel to turn on AEW devotees.

On the 24th November 2021 edition of Dynamite, Danielson delivered a brutal beat down to Colt Cabana cumulating in 'The World's Toughest Vegan' kicking a tooth out of Cobana's mouth. Bryan quickly turned his attention to the crowd's boos and jeers, highlighting that the fan's reaction had sharply flipped since his debut. There is only one word to describe this turn, and that is "fickle."

Danielson delivered one of the most memorable promos of his career. With the removed tooth in his open hand, he mocked CM Punk's aim to use his time in AEW to highlight and elevate the promotions younger talent. Bryan stated he's just there to "kick their f*cking heads in."

However, the one use of the word "fickle" caused just as much of a reaction as the entire heel-turn promo and the loss of Cabana's tooth. Wrestling fans love nothing more than a cross-promotion Easter egg.
