Neville, a supernaturally gifted aerialist, was so good that he was a closer spiritual successor to Dynamite Kid than even Chris Benoit - and as if proving that NXT is more than a glorified independent league, he has improved exponentially since arriving in the big time.

His match with Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver: R Evolution saw him perfect the elusive and difficult tweener role. It was the typical exhibition of state of the art athleticism at which both men excel, fused with an absorbing narrative built around Neville's perfectly-acted desperation and Zayn's palpable inner conflict. It was a masterpiece.

His heel work since becoming the self-professed King of the Cruiserweights has arguably been even better. Neville's matches remain high octane, breathtaking affairs so electric that they awaken even the dead post-SmackDown 205 Live crowds, but his grasp of psychology and nuance has elevated them into something truly exceptional.

His refusal to ascend the ropes until an opponent forces him off the mat demonstrates a near peerless command of audience manipulation. He is depriving them of his most spectacular offence and thus drawing their ire, subtly putting his more prominent opponents over, and preserving the power of what has become the deadliest finisher in WWE. When somebody does eventually kick out of the Red Arrow, it will generate a legendary reaction.

The man possessed of the most spectacular sh*t doesn't have to get it in to get over. There can be no higher commendation than that.
