10 Best Matches From The G1 Climax 30

4. Tomohiro Ishii Vs. Jay White (G1 Night 17)

Kota Ibushi G1 Climax 30
NJPW

This match had more stakes than any other block match. Jay White needed this win to guarantee himself a place in the finals. Tomohiro Ishii was already eliminated, but has the chance to redeem himself after a recent losing streak by spoiling the man who betrayed his stable CHAOS several years ago.

Ishii is beloved by fans everywhere, someone who might never win the tournament despite his critically acclaimed performances, but who had the chance to take the most meaningful victory of the G1 in the final match of the night and took it. White's tournament was largely mediocre but he pulled out the performance of his career here, with every heel tactic fitting the story perfectly and getting the crowd even more behind the heroic Ishii.

The longer it went on, the more tense and satisfying it became, with the action reaching a perfect crescendo by the final few minutes. Everything was on the line and it felt so monumental when Ishii delivered that final Brainbuster onto the Switchblade and cemented himself as the saviour of Block A. It was a triumphant moment for fans everywhere and especially for Ishii himself.
