No wrestler is synonymous with championship success in WWE quite like Bruno Sammartino. The star held the WWE Championship for an unfathomable seven years and seven months for his first reign, and less than three years after losing the belt, he recaptured it. The second reign lasted three years and five months, only coming to an end when Bruno requested to drop the belt due to injury.

Sammartino was never able to capture the same success when it came to the Intercontinental Title - which, granted, wasn't even introduced until far after his prime. Still, Pedro Morales - the second-biggest babyface of WWE's early days and a partner of Sammartino's - won the title on two separate occasions, making him the very first triple crown champion in WWE history.

The closest Sammartino ever came to holding the belt was during his brief comeback in the 1980s. Then in his 50s, Sammartino feuded with Randy Savage, who was in the midst of the greatest IC title run of all time. "The Living Legend" challenged "Macho Man" for the title at the Boston Garden and won - by disqualification. Savage retained the belt and Sammartino never got it.
