10 Best Wrestling Matches Of 2021 (So Far)

8. Josh Alexander vs. TJP (IMPACT Wrestling - 3 June)

Josh Alexander TJP
IMPACT Wrestling

Josh Alexander has gradually crept into the Best in the World conversation as 2021 has progressed thanks, primarily, to his sterling work as IMPACT Wrestling's vanguard performer.

The reigning X Division Champion's hit rate is as high as his ceiling. His name on the marquee means adrenaline-pumping excellence is guaranteed but while his 2021 body of work already outstrips 2020, it'd be wrong to call Alexander the year's most improved wrestler. The Canadian has been this good for years. If not for visa issues, he'd have likely broken out in the United States long before now, and his tag team run as one half of The North didn't allow for many singles opportunities.

For Alexander, the difference is the spotlight, not the skill level.

IMPACT's 3 June episode hosted his greatest triumph. Spread across Before the IMPACT and the main show, he and TJP fought a perfectly-paced 60-minute Iron Man match that grew, blossomed, and bloomed into something explosive, competitive, and increasingly urgent. A stunning effort that transcended IMPACT's frigid empty arena atmosphere (no easy task), it demonstrated that Alexander is more than a mere popcorn wrestler. He's a craftsman capable of filling 60 long minutes - and making them feel like 20.

Credit, too, to Josh's opponent. TJP attracts flak for his character outside the ring, though his command of the squared circle is underrated. He's as good as anybody on his day.
