1. Daniel In The Lions’ Den (2018)
It takes an extraordinary performance to put the most jaded of WWE fans on the edge of their seats.
WrestleMania XXX is frequently recognized as one of the all-time best and is regularly defined by two moments at opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. The first was Brock Lesnar conquering The Undertaker's undefeated streak. The latter witnessed Daniel Bryan conquering Evolution in the course of one evening to become the true 'People's Champion' on the Grandest Stage. WWE's David vs. Goliath angles rarely seem to deliver, but this seemed to be setting the stage for one that would overdeliver.
Unfortunately, Daniel Bryan had the worst luck on the planet. A series of neck and concussion issues not only relieved him of both World and Intercontinental Championships and scrubbed potential classics with Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014 and WrestleMania 31, but forced a premature retirement in 2016. It seemed as though the dream match was lost to history.
Until it wasn't.
Upon medical clearance in 2018, Bryan borrowed AJ Styles' 2017 playbook and disrupted the planned Lesnar/Styles sequel by defeating the Phenomenal One for the WWE Championship five days before Survivor Series. The dream match was finally happening, and it wouldn't disappoint.
'The Beast Incarnate' triumphed, naturally, but for almost 20 minutes, Lesnar and Bryan put on the performance of a lifetime in a brutal showcase that was equal parts difficult to watch and can't look away. They put the inevitable in question and any great main event should strive for that.
