10 Best WWE WrestleMania Matches Fought Between Part-Timers
2. Hulk Hogan Vs. The Rock (WrestleMania X8)
As Chris Jericho explains in his book A Lion's Tale, there are two main types of wrestling crowds - the Japanese crowds and the American crowds.
He explains how Japanese crowds tend to remain silent for most of the match, choosing to respect the wrestler's technical skills rather than make themselves a part of the match. American crowds, however, like to add to the match through chants, cheers and general hubbub.
Good god, was this the epitome of an American crowd.
From the second the bell rang, cheers rang out through the arena - they knew they were in for a good one. To the shock of both Rock and Hogan, they cheered the Hulkster, despite him having been gone for the better part of the last 10 years. Hogan was surprisingly mobile between the ropes, and The Rock did more than his part to maintain the pace of the match.
This match is a classic, and while it's easy to forget that this is what marked the beginning of The Rock's part-time phase, it was the right way for 'The Great One' to bow out.
