10 Best WWE WrestleMania Midcard Title Matches

WrestleMania XV is a prime example of the delusions of grandeur many older fans have about the Attitude Era. The event is marred with questionable booking, dud matches and a general lack of spectacle. Essentially a one match show, the event’s under-card was underwhelming.

The only other match that exceeded expectations was the European Championship bout between Shane McMahon and X-Pac. The match beautifully hid Shane’s limitations and told a concise story.

Some may point to the interference, or claim that the match was nothing more than a set up for Triple H’s evolution in to The Game character, but the work of both men is not to be downplayed.

This match was Shane’s highest profile performance, coming at a time when no one really knew his capabilities. X-Pac was a genuinely likeable baby-face (honestly) and the two shared a chemistry that not only helped push themselves forward but benefited those around them.

Anyone re-watching the event will agree that Shane and X-Pac were clearly desperate to impress on the big stage. On an event where very few seemed to be able to match their hunger, they deserve more credit for helping save the show from being considered one of the worst in company history.
