10 Big Questions From WWE SmackDown (July 30)
Prepare for an exasperated rant on the Bulgarian Brute.
In a week dominated by the Hulk Hogan furore and John Cena's broken nose, last night was time for us to see what SmackDown had to offer. Of course, Seth Rollins came to the ring to boast about the damage his wayward knee had inflicted upon the Cenation leader.
On the one hand, it was logical that the WWE World Heavyweight Champion would address this, with the attention it has gotten since Monday night. On the other, well, it felt like a confirmation that WWE really are making this stuff up as they go along. Whatever Seth's promo would have dealt with otherwise, we'll never know, but for it to be shunted so easily in favour of gloating about Cena's mangled nose, it can't have been that important.
The continued absence from the blue brand of big hitters like Cena and Orton allowed time for Cesaro, Owens, Stardust, and, unfortunately, more Rusev. Prepare for an exasperated rant on the Bulgarian Brute in this week's 10 Big Questions from SmackDown.
10. Is Cesaro Proving Vince Wrong?
Everyone remembers that infamous podcast, right? The one where Vince McMahon told Stone Cold Steve Austin that Cesaro didn't have 'it'. For a time, it seemed the Swiss Superman was dead and buried, despite securing tag gold with Tyson Kidd. Once the boss has made up his mind that you don't have what it takes, it's near-impossible to come back.
Since Kidd's unfortunate injury (and Cesaro's return to singles action) however, Cesaro has responded with stellar matches with the likes of Cena and Rusev. And last night, it appeared Cesaro had added another string to his bow - the ability to trade verbal jabs with Seth Rollins, interrupting the WWE Champion's opening promo.
Has Vince's mind been changed? Has someone been going to bat for Cesaro backstage, similar to Triple H and Stephanie bugging the Chairman to treat the Divas as something more than a light distraction? Whatever the truth, Cesaro must be lauded for his recent work.
