10 Biggest Main Events In WWE SmackDown History

1. Triple H Vs. Vince McMahon (16 September 1999)

Nobody said this was a great match, but few moments in WWE history have ever felt quite so significant. Vince McMahon, chairman of the board, winning his company's biggest prize. It was just monumental.

In a rare break from tradition, Vince was actually a face here (at least, officially), helped to his unlikely victory by an interfering Stone Cold Steve Austin. This, in turn, would put the plans for Stephanie's company takeover on ice, prolonging the angle that ultimately put Triple H on the map.

Technically it wasn't great (no kidding), but as a spectacle it still holds up today. Vince, to his credit, didn't try and stand toe-to-toe with his future son-in-law, spending most of the match on his back as son and special guest referee Shane McMahon played favourites.

The finish and ensuing crowd reaction is spectacular, and although it could have been a moment from which the WWE Champonship, in all its glory, never recovered, it actually paid off in the long run too. Vacating the title on the following week's Raw, the chairman then put The Game over in a huge way at Armageddon in December.
