10 Biggest Shocks From WWE Royal Rumble 2016

Ten huge surprises as the road to WrestleMania begins!

For years, fans have been told that anything can happen in WWE. While that may be an exaggeration, at each year's Royal Rumble event, it seems true - the unpredictable nature of the contest (including thirty separate entrances for current, returning, and debuting superstars) lends itself to some of the year's biggest surprises. Those surprises carry a lot of weight, given that the Rumble is the start of the build to WrestleMania. In 2013, The Rock won the WWE Championship for the first time in 11 years, and would go on to defend the title against John Cena at MetLife Stadium. The following year, fan outrage over the finish (Batista's victory) forced WWE to add Daniel Bryan to the main event in New Orleans. Last year, anti-Roman Reigns sentiment and Seth Rollins's outstanding performance combined to ensure that it was Rollins, not Reigns, who left San Jose with the WWE World Heavyweight Title. This year's event produced its own share of surprising moments, with a notable debut and an exciting return among the evening's most stunning news items - and, as promised, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was on the line in the Royal Rumble match. Here are the show's top 10 shockers, for better or for worse, and how they might impact WrestleMania:
