10 Biggest Wrestling Promo Botches
4. Vince Russo 'Shoots' On Hogan
In the year 2000, as the world was starting to realise the robot dogs and flying cars would not be forthcoming, Hulk Hogan was the WCW world champion and didn't look remotely interested in letting that change.
Vince Russo came up with a cunning plan. He would book a farcical match at Bash at the Beach where Jeff Jarrett would lie down for Hogan to pin him. Hoigan would respond with a ranting 'shoot' promo about his disgust at the state of the company. Russo would then emerge from backstage and strip Hogan of the belt without the Hulkster actually losing it, while creating a smark-friendly feud between Hogan and Russo for the future.
Unfortunately, Russo added a scathing anti-Hogan rant of his own to proceedings, which according to many sources Hogan had no idea was coming. And Hogan did not like it, no sir. Legend has it, it was Russo mocking Hogan's obvious and iconic baldness that sent Hogan over the edge.
Hogan was so furious he flounced off and never worked with WCW again. While his angry, shoot-style promo was delivered flawlessly, Russo managed one of the greatest botches of all time in hopelessly misjudging the fragility of Hogan's pride and dealing WCW a potentially fatal wound in the process.
