10 Biggest WWE Rematches Ever
Kevin Owens vs John Cena has nothing on these sequels.
John Cena touted his rematch against Kevin Owens as the biggest rematch in WWE history, a huge claim which seems to have been slightly overlooked in the excitement surrounding their feud. In reality, there have been many rematches of greater importance throughout the company's storied past, many of which also eclipse the Money In The Bank clash in terms of match quality too. The second in-ring instalment of Cena and Owens' feud was unquestionably a great bout, but the feud runs the risk of being overhyped. Although a well-worked encounter between two wrestlers with undeniable chemistry, its "big fight" feel pales in comparison to many other WWE rematches over the years. Quite simply, Cena vs Owens II was a rematch between a relatively little-known indie darling and the most polarising superstar in wrestling. Their feud is an exciting one, but can't quite distance itself from its stereotypical "veteran vs upstart" framework. Far more significant rematches have been built around the multi-layered history of various rivals, from the twin era-defining careers of Steve Austin and The Rock to the legendary, decades-old war between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. In the grand scheme of things, Cena and Owens' Money In The Bank clash was the hasty result of a month's build-up. As impressive as the in-ring action itself was, the rematch pales in comparison with far more intricate, emotive, and fittingly epic second encounters throughout WWE history.
