10 Bloodiest Fights In UFC History
1. Jonathan Goulet Vs. Jay Hieron (UFC Fight Night 2)
Ah yes, the fight so gruesomely bloody that the UFC refused to broadcast it on TV. Fear not though, as you can now witness the full horror of this video nasty on Fight Pass.
This was Goulet’s first outing in the Octagon and it didn’t start well as Hieron controlled proceedings with takedowns and submission attempts. That all changed in the second round, however, when Goulet landed a knee flush to Hieron’s forehead opening up a cavernous cut that immediately bled with a terrifying intensity.
Taking the fight to the mat again, Hieron spilt claret all over Goulet as the Canadian targeted the open wound with strikes from the bottom. Sounding genuinely shocked on commentary, Joe Rogan described it as the bloodiest fight he’d ever seen, saying, “critics and people who think Ultimate Fighting is bloody and brutal, this is fuel to the fire right here.”
Despite looking like he could legitimately bleed to death, Hieron was arguably still winning the contest. He was visibly exhausted from blood loss, however, and the doctor finally called the fight off in round three with Hieron on wobbly legs and cageside fans in varying states of distress.
Veteran cutman ‘Stitch’ Duran later called this the bloodiest fight he’d ever worked, saying the smell alone made him nauseous. So if someone who’s made a living from blood is getting a queasy stomach, well, don’t say you haven’t been warned should you watch this gore-fest and find yourself reaching for a vomit bag!
