10 Booking Steps For WWE Queen Of The Ring

Wrestling Inc.'s Raj Giri is reporting that WWE is planning their inaugural Queen Of The Ring tournament for later this year, making it the first King Of The Ring-esque tournament the company has held since Baron Corbin lifted the crown in September 2019.

It makes sense, of course; we've seen all-women Royal Rumble matches, Money In The Bank ladder matches, and War Games matches, but the company are yet to undertake a tournament of this magnitude. Granted, the Mae Young Classic did happen, however, the hype from this entirely surrounded the star power involved, rather than WWE promoting an all-female tournament.

A Queen Of The Ring could change this perception, however. The exact specificities surrounding the tournament are unknown as of yet, although the report goes on to say that WWE plans to make the tournament a main roster deal that will air via Peacock.

WWE can't possibly get this wrong. The King Of The Ring was a massive deal back in the day, launching the careers of 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar, amongst others. More modern winners, such as William Regal and Booker T, did wonders in the King character.

For the Queen Of The Ring, these standards must be met...

Save for one or two names (see: Becky Lynch), WWE is incapable of booking a women's division with in-depth story arcs and complex characters.

Regardless, the talent within these divisions is immense. WWE isn't exactly lacking in entrant numbers for such a tournament, rendering a typical eight-person field unacceptable. 16 entrants at the absolute least is a must.

The Raw and SmackDown women's rosters could fill this alone, and still have a handful of names left on the sidelines. While the tournament shouldn't be restricted to these talents alone for the avoidance of creating a dull field, the fact remains that WWE has an abundance of seminal talents on the red and blue shows, however, they'd rather make them possessed as opposed to wrestle decent matches. Alexa Bliss is a great wrestler - remember those days?

Of course, the recent reports from Mat Men Pro Wrestling's Podcast's Andrew Zarian, which states that the tourney will commence on the 8 October SmackDown episode and culminate at a Saudi Arabia show on 21 October renders this unlikely, unless WWE hosts all the opening round matches in one week, followed by the quarterfinals the following week. The Saudi Arabia show would feature only the semifinals and the finals.

By harking back to the early King Of The Ring days, though, you're instantaneously deeming this tournament as a prestigious event.
