Since the post-WrestleMania Raw, ratings for WWE’s flagship show have fallen. If ratings continue a downward trend, you’ve got to wonder whether WWE will stay the course with its new stars, or look to bring back old standbys to take the reigns. It’s doubtful that we’ll see something drastic this week, but this week’s ratings certainly could help with a decision.

Consider that superstars such as AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Enzo Amore & Big Cass, Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin, Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch were not on the main roster at this time last year. Longtime stars such as John Cena, Randy Orton, Kane, Big Show, Brock Lesnar, Undertaker and Triple H are nowhere to be found on WWE TV.

If ratings continue to fall, could we see Vince McMahon panic and try to get some of this roster stalwarts back into top slots? Could he abort pushes for some of the newcomers and other stars like Cesaro, who have been looking for a chance to prove themselves?

WWE needs to build new stars, and while there might be some growing pains along the way, the long-term benefit of boosting some of these young performers in fans’ eyes could have a positive lasting impact. Running back to the same aging superstars is not a cure, but we will see as the ratings come in whether this youth movement has legs.
