Newsflash: Kalisto is still the United States Champion. Just in case you thought otherwise, the masked luchador is still holding one of WWE’s secondary titles. It’s understandable if you thought otherwise: Since WrestleMania, Kalisto has had one singles match on Raw or Smackdown, a loss to Ryback on Thursday.

And that’s kind of the point. Since winning the title from Alberto Del Rio (who himself defeated the unbeatable John Cena), Kalisto has been treated as little more than an afterthought. While there was a chance at building a new Mexican masked superstar to fill the void left by Rey Mysterio, WWE has wasted that chance, and now we’re left with a situation where fans could be forgiven if they can’t remember who’s the U.S. champ.

With that in mind, is there any chance that we see Kalisto step up and fight like a champion? Seeing how he lost a nontitle match to Ryback on Smackdown last week, it’s possible that he could find himself in a title bout very soon.
