10 Compelling Contenders For John Cena's US Title Open Challenges
1. Finn Balor
If not Neville, another newcomer would be the best candidate to take John Cena’s title, and that would be a debuting Finn Balor. Imagine how beautiful a scene it would be, for Cena to come to the ring on a Raw months from tonight and issue his open challenge for the 15th consecutive week, only for the lights to go out and for smoke to fill the entrance ramp. That’s when Finn Balor would appear, in full body paint, before coming to the ring and waging war with John Cena in a 20-30 minute bout that sees him do the impossible, beating Cena and winning the U.S. Title on his first Monday Night Raw.
Chances of that are slim, but that doesn’t change that NXT Standout Finn Balor is on a short list of people that John Cena should drop the title to during one of his open challenges. Finn isn’t long for NXT, and while any glimpse to that program will tell you that the future of the WWE is bright, it is now time to set up the future of the company in a big way on the main roster. Having one of their young, next big stars carrying a freshly rehabbed belt is a great way to go about that. Any young guy that wins and gets to carry around the United States Championship Belt, whose meaning was improved by the existence of John Cena’s weekly open challenges, should be in a great position.
