In years gone by, WWE has found it difficult the plug the gap between two of the biggest PPVs of the year. The Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble are two traditions in WWE that often shape the direction of the following WrestleMania, so how do WWE keep everyone's interest throughout December? The December PPV hasn't been as regular as many think. The first December PPV took place in 1989 when the WWE's own 'No Holds Barred' film staring Hulk Hogan was shown before a series of pre-recorded matches. The next December PPV took place in the form of 1991's 'This Tuesday in Texas' as WWE tried to make Tuesday nights theirs but failed coming just days after that year's Survivor Series with a botched attempt to sell the same Undertaker vs Hulk Hogan main event. There would be another four year hiatus until the 'In Your House' series started. These PPVs had their titles dedicated to the most popular superstars of the time. For example, 1997 had 'D-Generation X: In Your House' before 1998's 'Rock Bottom: In Your House.' Armageddon and Vengeance would take their place before the TLC event we have today started in 2009. It's this time of the year when WWE's creative team goes into overdrive. More often than not, one storyline will come to a close at Survivor Series and the following WrestleMania season's will start in the build up to the Royal Rumble.
