Speaking of sudden nostalgia trips that thrilled ones in the know.

New Age Outlaws pair Billy Gunn and Road Dogg had been making several cameos on TV before launching headfirst into a full-time run come 2014. They'd typically show up as part of D-Generation X, spew through some catchphrases and then vanish again. This time, things would be different. This time, the Outlaws were going to win tag-team gold.

The famous tandem shockingly beat Cody Rhodes and Goldust in a pre-show bout before the 2014 Royal Rumble kicked off properly. Anyone thinking this would be a one-off pop that'd be corrected on Raw the next night would be wrong - WWE kept the belts on Billy and Roadie until March, and even had them go over The Usos.

Eventually, Jimmy and Jey managed to yeet the retro pair back onto the shelf by winning the titles. That'd be a wrap on New Age Outlaws 2K14, and they went back to working the cameo circuit over the next few years before Gunn stunned everyone by getting over in AEW as part of The Acclaimed.

Scissor me? Gunn had those WWE Tag straps in a vice like grip for a while!
