5. Randy Savage

Why He Left WWE: Reportedly, one drunken phone call to Vince McMahon was all it took for Randy Savage to ditch a cushy commentary gig with the WWF and try his luck elsewhere. Hindsight is 20/20, but McMahon had to know that 'Macho Man' wasn't content to play announcer in the mid-90s.

The icon knew he still had something to offer in-ring, and he was determined to make it happen.

The Moment: It didn't take long for 'Mach' to get excited again.

His WCW debut, on the 3 December 1994 episode of Saturday Night, was a passionate one. Savage had familiar energy and presence, but he was no longer hyping up other wrestlers. Nope, Randy was hyping himself. By the time he remarked that he was gunning for the World Title, that old spark was back.

WCW let Savage be a full-time worker again, and that just wasn't gonna happen under Vince's watch in 1994.
