10 Expectations Vs. Reality For WWE Royal Rumble 2020
3. Who Will Be A Surprise Entrant In The Men's Royal Rumble?
Expectation:
Edge has denied that he is set to return to in-ring action, which translated from wrestler-speak means "F*ck you guys for spoiling the surprise".
Edge was cleared for physical activity at SummerSlam last year, which was telling; the older Legends at RAW Reunion were booked in a series of contrived off-camera 24/7 Title wins under WWE's strict approach (well, Kurt Angle was cooked, but it's stricter than years gone by). PWInsider's Mike Johnson broke the story of Edge's return, and he's a reputable source. He is far from the mutant, dot-connecting variety that has somehow emerged from the swamps of Twitter to gain traction with the "I irrationally hate Dave Meltzer, so I'll believe anybody who says he's making sh*t up" crowd.
The problem here is that Edge would have to win the Rumble, else there's a risk that his fans revolt, and he looks, literally, like a loser from the jump. Dave Meltzer has reported that if Edge is doing anything at WrestleMania, it isn't a match with Brock Lesnar - and since the clear winner seems destined to wrestle the Fiend in Tampa...
Reality:
The surprise entrant is usually a novelty figure we've not seen in years, so...EC3?
(Sorry EC3. You deserve better,)
