10 Friends Turned Foes In The UFC
1. Tito Ortiz And Chuck Liddell
You've made it to the big one.
The one that drew the box office and put two of the UFC's biggest ever names on a collision course for the ages.
Tito Ortiz Vs Chuck Liddell.
Way back in 2004, when the UFC was finally defining itself as the major name in the MMA business, Ortiz and Liddell threw down. Yet, it was the pre-set narrative - of two former allies now turned enemies - coming into the bout that set the audience's interest to engage.
The Liddell that once assisted Ortiz in his build up to a fight with Frank Shamrock was nowhere to be seen when the two squared off twice under the UFC banner, with Liddell beating his former friend on both occasions. Their second bout in 2006 represented two icons in their prime coming off amazing runs and warring at the peak of their powers. The main event would help achieve UFC's first ever 1 million PPV buys.
Former training partners, turned bitter enemies in the pursuit of UFC Lightweight Heavyweight gold, Ortiz and Liddell would blow off their rivalry in 2018 at Golden Boy MMA Promotion. Ortiz would finally claim back his win in a fight that saw the old horses slogging it out way past their best before date.
These two could still be killing each other in their 60s and we'd probably still want to watch, but don't let their lacklustre finale detract from a rivalry that laid the foundations for the UFC's global dominance it enjoys today.
