10 Great Tag Teams WWE Needs To Sign
Could any of these guys dethrone The New Day?
It's been a great year for tag team wrestling in the WWE system.
On the main roster, The New Day just equaled the record tag reign of Demolition at a whopping 478 days, following their successful title defence on Raw against both Gallows & Anderson and Sheamus & Cesaro. In the fast moving world of WWE in the modern era, in which belts seem to change hands on a near weekly basis, it's a staggering achievement - and we're sure it has nothing to do with Vince McMahon being petty over Ax and Smash being part of the class action lawsuit against WWE. Nope...
Meanwhile, over on NXT, the tag division has been even better with new champs #DIY (Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano) recently winning the belts in a stone cold classic 2 out of 3 falls match at NXT TakeOver: Toronto from The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson). Both those teams have been arguably the MVPs of tag team wrestling in 2016, while the likes of American Alpha, Enzo & Cass (both now on the main roster), TM-61 and The Authors of Pain have helped produce some of the most exciting tag matches seen anywhere in wrestling this year.
But if WWE and NXT are to continue this momentum, they need to bring more talented teams into the fold. And given that the independent and Japanese scenes have an absolute wealth of teams doing incredible things, there are plenty for WWE to choose from.
10. The Motor City Machine Guns
One of the most entertaining tag teams in TNA and ROH history, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley reformed this year on the independent circuit, much to the delight of wrestling fans around the world.
After a hugely entertaining run in TNA between 2010 and 2012, MCMG disbanded when Shelley left TNA and signed with NJPW. While Shelley would form another highly entertaining and innovative team with KUSHIDA in New Japan, as TimeSplitters, many fans clamoured for the return of his partnership with Sabin.
And it's understandable why. One of the smoothest and most exciting teams we've ever seen in the ring, these two worked so brilliantly together and were able to pull off double team moves we never thought we'd see, in numerous entertaining bouts.
Now that MCMG are back together, WWE would be foolish not to try and bring them into at least the NXT fold. Sabin and Shelley vs Ciampa and Gargano is a Match of the Year candidate waiting to happen.
