10 Greatest Canadian Wrestlers Of All Time
10. Kevins Owens
The current Universal Champion is the youngest entry on this list but has already carved out quite the career both in WWE and on the independent circuit. Despite only having arrived on the main roster in May of 2015, the 32-year-old competitor is a two-time Intercontinental champion as well holding the aforementioned Universal title as the leader of the Raw brand. Apart from titles, Kevin Owens may have had one of the most memorable main roster debuts in recent history. Going right after the top guy in John Cena, Owens went on to cleanly defeat the then United-States champion at the Elimination Chamber, 2015.
Kevin Steen notably wrestled in Ring of Hono(u)r where he would become the first Canadian to capture the ROH World Championship in 2012. Moving into NXT in 2014, the “Prizefighter” made an immediate impact in which he captured the NXT title by TKO from perennial rival Sami Zayn.
So Kevin Owens has won four titles in WWE within two years and defeated the top guy in his Raw debut, what does that all mean? Obviously, the company has extreme faith in the competitor to succeed. Although Owens may have only received the Universal title due to an injury to Finn Balor, he was the company’s first choice as an emergency replacement. And why would he not be? The man in one of, if not the best, talker in the entire company; which combined with his superb in-ring ability has all the makings of a superstar.
Owens shattered the prototypical image of a WWE superstar, has already proven to be a successful champion and is still building his legacy. Years from now, he will no doubt rank higher on this list of great Canadians.
